Cobalt's Newest Associate Partner

Cobalt welcomes Alberto Bicol into the partnership…

We are pleased to announce that Alberto Bicol, PEng, LEED® Accredited Professional, has become an Associate Partner of Cobalt Engineering, effective September 1, 2005.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of working with Albert will know why he was invited to join the partnership after being with Cobalt for just 18 months. Simply put, Albert is passionate about possibilities; possibilities like zero net energy buildings, sustainable master plans and energy efficient casinos. Albert is one of the people who will help Cobalt realize its vision of becoming one of the top creative building design firms in the world.

According to Albert, “What really stood out to me as different when I joined Cobalt was that my creativity and passion were not stifled by organizational barriers, but rather encouraged and supported. I truly believe that anything is possible. That I have become Partner after 18 months is proof of that.”

As Cobalt’s 8th partner and owner of BC’s largest mechanical engineering firm, Albert solidifies and invigorates a diverse group of leaders. Albert is continually exploring new ideas and educating clients on what is possible. He has helped expand the company’s scope of service beyond that of a typical mechanical engineering firm to include funding research and application services, microclimate analysis, daylighting analysis and is now spearheading the company’s foray into façade design; all of which have directly benefited Cobalt’s clients, particularly in quantifying and verifying the feasibility of non-conventional designs.

Albert leads a team of 8 designers and technicians whose project portfolio includes the Sustainable Master Plan and campus expansion for Kwantlen University College; cross-Canada Safeway stores, Montenay’s new office building at the Burnaby Incinerator (potential LEED Platinum) and the Edgewater Casino at the former Expo BC Pavilion (the largest installation of displacement delivery ventilation in North America).

In addition to leading a full production team, Albert has presented to over 60 groups of architects, developers, owners, students and conference delegates across Canada and the Pacific Northwest. He was also recently invited to be a Master Speaker at the Philippine Institute of Architects’ National Convention.

Albert sums up his and Cobalt’s mission: “When we help our clients create healthy, resilient and energy efficient buildings, we make a difference in the world- whether it be with a local firm on a small project, on a nationwide franchise project or on a landmark international project. The possibilities are endless.”
