Mahanti Chu joins Cobalt

Cobalt Engineering expands its service offering with the addition of electrical engineering design services.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cobalt Engineering acquires Mahanti / Chu Engineering Ltd. with an eye to global competition.

VANCOUVER, July 10, 2006 – Cobalt Engineering has expanded its engineering consulting services to include electrical engineering with the acquisition of Mahanti / Chu Engineering Ltd., effective July 4, 2006. Cobalt has established a name for itself as both BC’s largest single-discipline mechanical consulting firm and as a leader in sustainable design, and is now expanding its horizons to reflect what Managing Partner Edward Smith says is the reality of the global market:
“The move is an acknowledgement that clients on the global market are more comfortable with mechanical and electrical being managed together. We’re also evolving toward becoming a pure design office, which reflects what we believe is Canada’s emerging international role.”

Smith explains that Cobalt has the business focus and structure to enable the electrical engineers to grow and thrive, through programs such as its established in-house research and education. “We have developed a very successful business model with some extremely bright engineers. Mahanti / Chu brings over 75 years of solid electrical engineering experience and a long-standing reputation for client service and quality documentation- the fundamental building blocks for the future of our innovative electrical engineering practice.”

The acquisition of Mahanti / Chu is also a strong move given Cobalt’s belief in the effectiveness of integrated design. “We work on projects as comprehensive as multi-block mixed use sustainable developments. It is critical, especially with more non-conventional systems- for instance, photovoltaics or co-generation systems- that our engineers be able to speak to both disciplines,” says Smith. “We look forward to showing what a small Canadian company can do to impact the way buildings are designed, built and retrofitted across the globe.”
