Visibly demonstrating its sustainable approach, this facility will increase campus-wide awareness of the importance of making more sustainable choices.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vancouver, BC – The Langara College Library has received international recognition for its ecologically advanced design. The project vision was to improve access to student resources while creating an innovative design that blends sustainability, flexibility and social responsibility.
The results are nothing short of inspiring. Striving to achieve LEED Gold Certification, this project combines passive and active design strategies. Highlights include wind-driven natural ventilation, a green roof, a geothermal grid, and radiant heating and cooling. The effective combination of progressive design features resulted in an estimated energy savings of 68% compared to a standard building.
The intelligent design actively pursues sustainability while improving the quality of life for the end-user. “The new Library/Classroom Building is an example of our Environmental Responsibility governance policy coming to life, and it demonstrates that we are committed to using and managing our own physical environment in ways that lead to sustainability,” says Langara College President, Linda Holmes.
