Ken Newbert, Senior Partner

As one of the founding Partners of Cobalt Engineering, Ken brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the leadership team. Over the years, he has been involved in an incredible variety of building types and sizes across a wide range of sectors. Ken recognizes that the sharing of knowledge is essential to developing internal talent and building a successful organization. Driven by his belief in the importance of life-long learning, he has successfully established and implemented the company’s Mentoring and Leadership Program.

On a technical level, Ken serves as Chairman of the Building and Plumbing Services Standing-Committee, which is responsible for the National Plumbing Code and Part 6 of the National Building Code. Committed to quality enhancement within the community, he also conducts practice technical reviews for fellow mechanical engineering members of APEGBC. He is also Chairman for the Consulting Practice Committee for APEGBC. Ken shares his experience and knowledge regularly as a keynote speaker and presenter.

Ken is passionate about sustainable design and enjoys infusing green design technologies into traditional designs. He designed the first C2000 project in Western Canada (pre-LEED energy efficient building design program) and has participated in several other ground-breaking projects, such as the largest condo project in Canada and one of the first 100% naturally ventilated office buildings in Canada. More recent sustainable projects include the University of British Columbia’s Aquatic Ecosystems Research Laboratory and the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos, BC.
