S.K. Lai, Senior Partner
“Don’t worry about us being small individually. Consider ourselves being incredibly powerful as a community.”

Since joining Cobalt in 1990, SK has specialized in project management and prime consulting work focusing on system upgrades in healthcare and K-12 educational facilities throughout BC. He has also been heavily involved in new building design for acute care, multi-level care, school facilities, and public buildings across the province. SK’s passion is convincing clients to think about using passive systems rather than traditional inefficient, active mechanical systems.
SK adopts a holistic perspective and encourages design teams to adopt a global approach. He develops projects for the future that blend innovative designs with improved functionality. One of his recent projects is the 1.2M ft 2 Southeast False Creek, which includes the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Athletes’ Village.
One of SK’s beliefs is that we all grow up wealthy without knowing it. This wealth encompasses the entire realm of life that we enjoy today of which our ancestors could never have dreamed. The main issue today is that our everyday life is founded upon a bottomless supply of inexpensive energy.
SK believes that we are depriving future generations of their essential resources without realizing it. His passion for sustainability is not about one single important issue like global warming, but is about the inter-relationship of who we are being. He continues to share this message by living in the possibility of being great and powerful… and not worrying about being small.
