Vancouver General Hospital - AACC

As the first P3 healthcare project in BC, the design team adopted a whole building approach driven by environmental responsibility.

Located on the site of the Vancouver General Hospital, the Academic Ambulatory Care Centre (AACC) is an 11-storey building that spans 365,000 ft2 with 600 underground parking stalls. As the province’s first private-public partnership venture, project goals included the consolidation of outpatient disciplines and expanded ambulatory care capacities.

Cobalt provided mechanical advisory services for this $95M project, including combined outpatient care services including specialty clinics, medical education, practice offices, a 350-seat theatre, and commercial/retail activities in the one location. Consulting with the VCHA users and facility management, Cobalt established the design parameters.

One of the key design features is the radiant heating and cooling system which increases occupant comfort while also delivering valuable operational savings. The design intentions included meeting LEED® Silver targets.

This project was the first P3 healthcare project in British Columbia and was delivered on time and within budget. This is a building that caters to the growing needs of the community. Following an integrated design approach, the team delivered a sustainable and flexible design driven by environmentally friendly choices, while creating a high tech patient environment that will continue to meet the evolving needs of the Vancouver community.
