Queensborough Casino

Design goals for the largest casino in BC focused on enhancing the gaming experience.

New Westminster is about to add a new state-of-the-art entertainment facility to their community. The Queensborough Casino is expected to be the largest casino in the province of BC. The facility will be nothing short of spectacular and will attract a sophisticated audience. When completed, the casino will cover over 1,045,000 ft 2 including a spectacular 65,000 ft 2 gaming floor. The other amenities include a show lounge, an 18,500 ft 2 sports bar with a 14,500 ft 2 restaurant.

Cobalt provided mechanical engineering services for the design of this prominent casino project. Key goals focused on the incorporation of sustainable design principles. In particular, innovative design, enhanced user experience, and environmental considerations, as well as energy savings were of primary concern.

One of the key design features was the use of underfloor air distribution coupled with thermal displacement ventilation. This features allows the heat gain to be displaced to other parts of the casino complex while cooler air enters in through the floor. In order to create an ambient entertainment space, 3600 air diffusers were installed on the gaming floor.

To create more comfortable indoor conditions, air supply comes from 100% outdoor air to eliminate the staleness of traditional casino atmospheres. Overall, gamers, visitors, and staff alike will have a more enjoyable experience at the Queensborough Casino, while the facility will continue to adhere to ecologically sound principles that reduce the strain on the local infrastructure and contribute to the well being of the entire community.
