Southeast False Creek
The Southeast False Creek development plan for the upcoming Althetes’ Village has set a target of LEED Gold.
The Southeast False Creek (SEFC) area comprises a total of approximately 80 acres of former industrial land near downtown Vancouver. The majority of land north of First Avenue is owned by the City, while over 30 acres is privately owned. This area is the future home of the Olympic Athletes’ Village for the upcoming 2010 Games.
Cobalt is heading the passive design of all the buildings and the facade systems for Sub Area 2A of the Southeast False Creek development. In addition to the Athletes’ Village, retail and other mixed-use developments, this site will also house a new 28,650 ft 2 community centre and contain 205,000 ft 2 of affordable housing.
All developments will meet or exceed the high social, economic, and environmental sustainability standards set out in the City’s Southeast False Creek Official Development Plan (ODP). The ODP is also closely aligned with the LEED Rating System, and design targets are set at LEED Gold. The project also includes a 61 unit seniors housing complex with Net-Zero Energy/GHG Emissions goals.
Cobalt are providing numerous services for the project. In the Pre-Design / Development Stage sustainable master planning, facade design for all of the buildings and building energy modelling services will be provided. Mechanical engineering consulting services for the entire development with four production teams working on eight separate site parcels will also be provided. Cobalt will be following up with construction administration services and are also providing LEED project management services for related mechanical credits.
